SML Group Launches New, Smaller RFID Tag Inlays
Now, even the smallest health and beauty items can be reliably tracked in-store for loss prevention and faster replenishment
DALLAS, TEXAS (PRWEB) MAY 03, 2016
Today, leading RFID technology and total brand identification solution provider SML Group announced the release of new RFID tag inlays with NXP Semiconductors UCODE IC for smaller RFID tags and labels. These new inlays offer outstanding RFID performance for item-level inventory management and loss prevention of small retail items, such as cosmetics, jewelry, sunglasses and fragrance bottles.
Based on NXP’s leading-edge UCODE 7 RFID integrated circuit (IC), the new RFID inlays from SML enable item-level tagging of even the smallest health and beauty items, with inlays as small as 14x14mm to fit onto a lipstick cap. In-store retail RFID inventory management traditionally has excluded many very small retail items, such as individual cosmetics, due to their size and the challenges inherent in reading small tags within dense displays.
The new SML RFID tag inlays are designed for markets where inventory accuracy has been notoriously low due to problems with manual stock counts and out of stocks, and inventory shrink is high compared to other categories. The tag development was done in the context of an overall solutions approach to addressing retail customers’ pain points, in conjunction with SML’s best-in-breed Clarity™ solutions offering, which includes RFID reader technology from various SML partners.
“We are excited to be able to leverage NXP’s latest, high-performance chip technology to provide even greater flexibility in our line of RFID tags and labels trusted by the top fashion brands worldwide,” said Philip Calderbank, SML Vice President for Global RFID. “SML’s customers have been waiting for an RFID inlay that can be attached to small items to ensure rapid on-shelf replenishment. These new RFID tag inlays enable SML to produce very small labels, allowing our customers to benefit from RFID for items that were previously left out due to small size and dense product displays.”
“SML’s launch of this inlay comes at a very appropriate time, and having this product in SML’s portfolio means we can meet RFID requirements in new categories emerging in the health, beauty and personal care space, as well as in medical applications,” said Ralf Kodritsch, NXP Director and Segment Manager for RFID Solutions. “The NXP UCODE 7 technology offers best-in-class performance, enabling long read distances and fast inventory of dense RFID tag populations.”
